How to Stay Entertained On a Long Drive
- Load up on offline game apps: The obvious solution to your boredom is to go to your phone, check Facebook or Twitter, play some games, watch some videos, etc. The only problem is that you’re sure to burn through all your cellular data, and boredom is a sure temptation to cause you to do it quickly. Instead, do some research ahead of time and download some games for your phone that you can play offline without needing an online connection.
- Chew bubble gum: This one may seem silly, but it really can help you fight boredom, especially for the kids. Some sort of breath-freshening mint gum won’t do the trick. You’ll want quality bubble gum… the pink stuff that allows you to blow huge bubbles. Have a contest to see who can blow the biggest bubble… just don’t get any stuck on the seats!
- Guess the driver: Sometimes, it’s fun to look at a vehicle and its driver and take a guess at what their job is, where they are from or any other sort of fun background story you’d like to make up. Make it a contest by seeing who can come up with the most likely story or the most interesting story.
- Eat new snacks: On many road trips, people try to stop as little as possible. We say, make those stops, get out and enjoy a new area of the country. Even if it’s just for 10 minutes at a gas station, it can be an interesting way to enjoy a culture that is slightly different from yours. For example, you’ll probably notice that each area has slightly different offerings when it comes to snacks at the gas stations or convenience stores you stop by. Make a point to try a new one you’ve never had before each time you stop and share them with each other to find your favorites.
