What is Rear Door Alert (RDA)?

Two Nissan engineers who are also proud mothers—Elsa Foley and Marlene Mendoza—came up with the idea of RDA when Foley forgot a pan of lasagna in her back seat during a hot summer night. As one would imagine, the car smelled for days. This led them to think – if only there would have been a better way to remember it was back there. With RDA, the future of backseat cargo is now.

How Does RDA Work?

When a vehicle is equipped with RDA, it will remember the patterns of your car doors opening and closing. If you open and close at least one of the back doors of your Nissan vehicle before driving somewhere, arrive at your destination, turn off the car, and then leave the vehicle without opening and closing at least or more of those doors, the RDA will activate.

Does RDA Have More Than One Setting?

The RDA system can be configured in several ways to best fit the driver’s preferences. Depending on the driver’s settings, the RDA can manifest its alert in the form of a silent notification on the instrument panel, distinctive horn honks, or both. Additionally, the RDA system can be temporarily or permanently disabled – whichever is better for the driver. The RDA system will debut on the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder, but it will also appear on other Nissan vehicles in the not-so-distant future.
