Rio Grande Valley Events August 2016
One of the best things about the Rio Grande Valley is that the local communities do an awesome job of offering fun events. These events wouldn’t be successful without the help of local businesses. Charlie Clark Nissan of Harlingen loves supporting these events and making the Rio Grande Valley a fun place to live and visit. Here are a couple of events happening in August 2016 throughout the Rio Grande Valley that Charlie Clark Nissan is a proud sponsor of!
Texas International Fishing Tournament
When: August 5
Where: Port Isabel, South Padre Island
For 77 years, the Texas International Fishing Tournament has brought in huge crowds from all over to watch participants pull the largest fish out of the beautiful blue waters near South Padre Island. This year, the event is expected to be bigger than ever, and beautiful weather is in the afternoon forecast! Come see who can catch the biggest shark, barracuda, blue marlin, swordfish, and other species! If you are interested in participating, information can be found here.
Blues on the Hill
When: August 20
Where: McKelvey Park, Harlingen
This family friendly event features awesome music from the blues genre. The headlining band is Katy Guillen & The Girls (from Kansas City), who participated in Memphis’ International Blues Challenge in 2014. Special guests include Tim Gonzalez ( a harmonica player from Brownsville, TX who has recorded with B.B King, Ronnie Milsap, and Toby Keith) and Soul Pocket, along with Evelyn Rubio (a saxophonist from Houston, TX). Attendants are welcome to bring their own blankets and chairs. Food offerings include barbeque, funnel cakes, fajitas, kettle corn, and much more. Thanks to donations and support from local businesses like Charlie Clark Nissan, this event is free to the public! Additional information can be found on the Blues on the Hill website.
